Your purplish, tender leaves,
Reaching toward the edgy horizon
With a light-eating eagerness!
On your leafy palms,
Open, defenseless venation—
Like markings on an immigrant’s passport.
Like fireworks at midnight,
A purple flame from the earth’s deep heart
Splashes on your stemmed intersections.
On your tender elbows,
Proudly holding the purpleness,
An unapologetic signature.
Your itinerant becoming,
Interweaving into the unknown future,
Unabashed, un-forming entanglements.
From childhood memory—
A starchy blessing to the empty stomach,
Your purple body broken for us!
Your cloudy, spongy little roots,
The manifested multiplicities,
Still grounded in a firm, tentacular footing!
